Year 2017 Trip

“Journey to the Nomads”  trip to Changthang and the successful ascent of the 6200m Mentok Kangri with 17 of our volunteers, we are back with our 2017 trips and projects.

Sight To Sky has served over 7000 patients in Ladakh, India since 2012, from the borders of Pakistan to the borders of Tibet. Starting with our pioneering project to the historic Indus valley, to the nomadic pastures of Changthang, to an epic trekking journey providing dental, women’s health and eye care in the remote Zanskar valley to last year’s foray into the beautiful Nubra valley and the return to the nomadic lands of Changthang.

As always, we would like to invite you to come along to experience this beautiful, life-changing and fascinating experience, known as the Himalayas.

Going beyond in 2017

Ladakh and Sikkim Trips

This year, not only are we heading back to Ladakh, we will be venturing into Sikkim for a mobile eye clinic outreach. This will be our pioneering project to the villages of Sikkim. We will be carrying out mobile eye clinics to distribute glasses, conduct primary eye screening and health care education. We are looking for volunteers for both trips, more details below.

Building a Solar School

We realized that the needs of the communities we work in go beyond eye care and many of these include basic education and infrastructure, all of which promote the well-being and health of the community. Therefore, we are happy to announce our partnership with Csoma’s Room Foundation to build our very first Solar School Project in Tanpo Village, Zanskar.

Education has always been at the heart of what we do and it makes sense that we partner with our architect friends from Hungary to build their second solar school in the area, where winter lasts for 6 months at a stretch. With a solar school, Children in the Zanskar village will be able to function as per normal during the winter months. For this project, we are looking to raise SGD30K, to fund the materials needed to build the school. We will have fundraisers coming up in Singapore to support this project, details coming soon, and we are looking for sponsors, volunteers, and supporters, so if you know a kindred soul, please email us.

If you (or know anyone) with an appetite for a once in a lifetime adventure, a kind heart, a willingness to rough it out, doesn’t mind waking up not knowing what to expect and loves meeting like-minded people – volunteer with us! The tentative itinerary below.
